Fitbit Sense Advanced Smartwatch is a popular health-tracking fitness watch available from Fitbit with some basic fitness features and an additional EDA sensor. It is the first smartwatch in the world to have an EDA sensor for stress tracking. EDA stands for Electrodermal Activity Response which measures the body’s responses to stress using its multi-path electrical sensors. The Fitbit Sense measures the EDA sensor when you wear the smartwatch on your wrist. This aids the Stress Management feature of the device. Check out the Fitbit Sense Review.
All the basic smartwatch features are available in the Fitbit Sense Advanced Health Smartwatch, along with an FDA-Approved ECG sensor with reasonable accuracy. Its AMOLED display and always-on screen improved the visibility of the watch. The user interface is simple but a bit slow compared to most smartwatches. The smartwatch is reasonably priced, given the good number of features and the first-time-ever EDA-sensor smartwatch. With its new upgrades from the Fitbit Versa model, this is a must-have watch in your collection. We would say that the stress tracking feature is more advanced than many smartwatch models, including the Fitbit Versa 3. In this Fitbit Sense review, we will discuss the different features of this smartwatch.
- EDA Sensor
- Hands-free calling
- Alexa and Google Assistant integration
- Skin Temperature Sensor

Design and Display
The classy square smartwatch has a design similar to the Fitbit Versa models. The Fitbit Sense has a sturdy stainless steel case. Its touch-sensitive button on the left side makes it a user-friendly smartwatch. Switching between features is easy with the responsive interface. However, the interface is comparatively slower than the previous models. The AMOLED display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and gives ultimate protection. The bezels are smaller than the previous models and make the visibility clear even in bright daylight. It has a 1.58-inch screen with a resolution of 336*336 pixels. You will not face any size-fit issues as the strap is comfortable and fit-for-all. It weighs around 46 grams. The straps are comfortable and soft, improving the overall look of the device.
The built-in GPS and GLONASS keep track of your runs and map your workout data. With this responsive GPS, you can check your pace and distance. The Advanced Health Smartwatch comes with a water-resistant, swim-proof built up to 5 ATMs, and it allows you to use the watch, conveniently for pool swims, showers, or at the beach.
With a good battery life of 6+ days on smartwatch mode, the Fitbit Sense ensures that you can track your fitness activities and health metrics throughout the day without running out of charge. The Lithium Polymer battery is powerful and has quick charging facilities. It takes 40 minutes to get charged from 10 to 80%. If the GPS is used actively for long durations, the completely charged battery can last you about 12 hours.
The magnetic USB charger gets your smartwatch quickly charged for a full day’s use with maximum fitness tracking features in just 12 minutes. The magnetic connection is easy to use.
Health Tracking Features
It is the first smartwatch in the world to have a powerful EDA sensor. The EDA sensor allows the device to track the slightest spikes in the electrical responses of the body when stressed. The on-wrist app detects the response and expresses the data graphically on the Fitbit App. While most other smartwatches track the stress using heart rate variability, this EDA sensor in the Fitbit Sense Advanced Health Smartwatch tracks the activity with the help of some minor undetectable charges on your skin that interact with your sweat level when stressed. All you need to do to track the stress info is to place your hand over the display to track the response. However, we feel that the EDA tracking needs some tweaks for better detection. The information might not be very accurate even though the stress data is pretty elaborate giving you a number from 1 to 100 where 100 means very stressed, and a lower number indicates lower stress.
The EDA scan app can log in your mood information, and after the mindful sessions on the app, you can get insights on what changes your mood and makes you feel better. It can help you make lifestyle changes for a healthier and calm self amidst all the unavoidable reasons causing stress daily.
The SpO2 monitor that detects the blood oxygen level in the Fitbit Sense Advanced Smartwatch is quite accurate. Even when you are wearing it through the night, the graphs on the Fitbit App will record and graphically represent it. Peaks in the graphs might indicate possible disturbances in breathing patterns. You can discuss this with your physician in case you feel any uneasiness. This SpO2 monitoring is also available only on specific watch faces. If you have a watch face that does not provide SpO2 tracking, you might not be able to see the information on your wrist. The SpO2 data for such watch faces will also not be available on the Fitbit App.
However, manufacturers of the Fitbit Sense Advanced Health Smartwatch ensure that the problem of the SpO2 tracking data not being available on the Fitbit App will be taken care of in the upcoming model. Compared to the previous models, there are more watch faces that support the SpO2 tracking in Fitbit Sense.
Skin Temperature Sensor
In the present scenario, the skin temperature sensor is a useful feature of the smartwatch. The temperature sensors in direct contact with your wrist measure fluctuations in body temperatures. The sensor measures such temperature fluctuations even in your sleep. It takes around 3 days to determine a baseline body temperature for you. Keep in mind that these sensors only measure your skin temperature on your wrist which is not the same as your core temperature. However, for a better understanding of the metrics, you can add your core temperature manually.
Similar to most other previous models from Fitbit, the Fitbit Sense Advanced Health Smartwatch Offers high-quality sleep tracking. It gives you a sleep score based on relaxed sleep, sleep duration, heart rate, and breathing pattern during sleep. You get a score from 1 to 100. Where a score from 90 to 100 signifies that you had an excellent sleep. The restoration data on the Fitbit App tells you how restful your sleep was. Any number below 60 in sleep score signifies poor sleep. If you get a score below 60, it is time for you to make some lifestyle changes to improve your sleep and health in turn. It measures the different stages of sleep and divides them into light, deep, and REM sleep.
If you use the sleep mode on your Fitbit Advanced Health Smartwatch it will mute the smartphone notifications. You can schedule to turn on the sleep mode at night automatically.
The EDA sensor, as we already mentioned earlier, aids in stress tracking. Instead of using heart rate variability (HRV), the Fitbit Sense uses the EDA sensor. Even though we believe that the responsiveness of the EDA sensor could be better. The smartwatch gives you a stress score from 1 to 100, where a 100 is when you have the least signs of stress, whereas a lower number denotes that you are stressed.
The high-end stress tracking feature allows you to define your state of mind, whether you are stressed or calm. The stress management score and the reflections allow you to control your mind for a stress-free self. The stress score is divided into Responsiveness, Exertion Balance, and Sleep Patterns for Fitbit Premium users to aid in better analysis.
The Fitbit Sense comes with an FDA-Approved ECG sensor that is capable of checking atrial fibrillation. By touching either side of the watch with your thumb and forefinger, the Fitbit Sense can detect any irregularities in your heartbeat. However, do not rely on this data alone to define any medical condition. If you feel there is some irregularity and if you feel unwell, consult your physician for a thorough check-up.
Fitness Tracking Features
The GPS and the heart rate monitor helps to track the fitness data while you are running, walking, swimming, or just working out. The fitness information is very accurate. Even though from this Fitbit Sense review, you will understand that the watch has more health tracking features than fitness tracking features, the fitness can be tracked to a large extent. It can still track the basic information for multi-sports such as golf, kickboxing, Pilates, martial arts, cardio, swimming, yoga, and more.
The water-resistant body makes it a suitable watch for swimming as well. You can measure your laps, lap time, and strokes through the watch.
Heart rate zone training is also available with this Smartwatch. The smartwatch vibrates on your wrist as you move from one heart rate zone to another while you are in the middle of a workout. The watch helps to Map your runs without having to carry your phone around. The map can be viewed in the Fitbit App. You can also connect your Fitbit App with Strava and control both your physical and mental self with the insights from this smartwatch.
Phone call and text support
The built-in mic and speaker allow you to take phone calls from your phone and even talk with your smartwatch even when the phone is not around. You can take calls via Bluetooth on hands-free mode, adjust the volume and send voicemails to contacts. However, you need to have your phone nearby to access this feature. You can send quick replies to texts from your wrist. You will get notifications for texts, calendars, Gmail, and the like.
Alexa and Google Assistant
With Alexa and Google Assistant integration, you can access the Voice Assistant feature. You can just use the Alexa commands to control alarms, set alarms, reminders, control smart home devices, check weather information, and more right on your wrist.
You can play any music from Deezer and Pandora. Controlling Spotify music from your smartwatch is also possible. You can use this feature while you work out. Downloading and storing the music on the device is not possible.
Fitbit App Premium
With the access to Fitbit Premium app, you can download hundreds of apps and use them conveniently on the go. Some features for the Fitbit Sense are available only with the Fitbit Premium App. The watch comes with a 6 month free trial for premium. If you have the Fitbit Premium you can have access to mindfulness activities, guided workouts and programs, advanced insights on sleep tracking, advanced health stats such as activity tracking, weight, and sleep tracking. You can follow your fitness goals in a better way with the Premium features.
You can input your credit card and debit card information on the Fitbit Pay in the Fitbit App and use the smartwatch to make the payments quick and easy. Not all countries use Fitbit Pay as a mode of payment. If you want to use Fitbit Pay, please check if Fitbit Pay is available in the country you are in before purchasing the watch.
Price and Availability
The Fitbit Sense Price in India and the USA is Rs. 22999/ $ 229.95, which is expensive among the Fitbit smartwatches available so far. The Fitbit Sense Release Date was on 25 August, 2020. We found many FITBIT Sense Smartwatch Buy Online options on the different e-Commerce websites such as Walmart and Amazon, apart from the official website of Fitbit. The prices of the Fitbit Sense in India and the US might vary slightly depending on the eCommerce site you are purchasing it from.
Fitbit Versa 3 versus Fitbit Sense
The Fitbit Sense comes with several features that are worth a mention. The EDA sensor is an addition that was not in any other Fitbit model before. Our Fitbit Sense Review shows that the Fitbit Sense has quite a number of upgraded features such as better stress tracking, sleep tracking, and good battery life among other good features such as skin temperature, fitness mapping, and more. Even though the Fitbit Sense Price in India is high, the features it comes along with, make it worth buying. We feel that the Fitbit Sense is better in terms of Health and Fitness tracking compared to Fitbit versa 3. However, the less responsive touch sensor makes it a little difficult to use.
In this Fitbit Sense Review, we have discussed most features of the upcoming smartwatch from the Fitbit family in detail. On release, we found that the Fitbit Sense Smartwatch Best Price in India 2021 from Amazon and Walmart among other popular eCommerce sites was more or less the same. The new EDA feature, the FDA-Approved ECD sensor is something to look out for. The thermal sensor is more or less accurate in measuring any changes in your body temperature. However, the fact that a number of features and App downloads are restricted to the Fitbit Premium App, we’d say Fitbit could have done better. Overall this is a great watch to have in your collection of smartwatches.
